Rewa Handa
An insider’s guide to Porto Cervo, with the best tips on where to eat, swim, and stay.
When I decided to explore Porto Cervo, I anticipated a somewhat typical Italian holiday filled with shopping, pasta, and wine, expecting little beyond the typical tourist experience. However, Porto Cervo’s stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters shattered my expectations and left me completely enchanted. This guide will help you discover the best of Porto Cervo, whether you’re a foodie, a beach lover, or just looking to unwind in style. Trust me, this Mediterranean gem will surprise and delight you in ways you never imagined.
Some Advice
When visiting Porto Cervo, unlike most European cities, there's no public transport to rely on. Renting a car is the best option, but be aware that they drive on the opposite side of the road compared to the UK.
Where to Eat
I would like to preface by saying Porto Cervo is not the place to go if you are on a diet. The food is SO YUM, you will arrive a size 4 and leave a size 10 (but it’s worth it).
Agriturismo La Colti Cannigione
For a truly authentic Sardinian dining experience, go to Agriturismo La Colti Cannigione. Its located on a farm and all the food is grown right there. The freshness and flavours of the dishes are exceptional. (Pro tip: wear something loose you will be full after).
Elit
Elit is one of the rare budget friendly places. Their pasta, especially the arrabiata, is delish. It’s located near the shops, and opposite is a gelato place where you can get dessert.
Where to Stay
Cervo Hotel
Cervo Hotel is part of the Marriott group, however the hotel has traditional Sardinian charm. The beautiful architecture and central location make it the perfect choice for those who want to be close to the town’s bustling nightlife and shopping. It’s so lovely I found myself plotting ways to move in permanently.
Hotel Pitrizza
Hotel Pitrizza is a secluded hotel in lush gardens with a private beach. The views of the Costa Smeralda are breathtaking. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway or a peaceful retreat.
Where to Swim
La Maddalena Island
Taking a boat trip to La Maddalena Island was the highlight of my trip. The crystal-clear waters are like swimming in a giant natural pool. It’s a must-do – pack a picnic, bring your snorkeling gear, and enjoy an unforgettable day. Just be prepared to have all your future beach experiences pale in comparison.
Spiaggia del Pevero
Spiaggia del Pevero is absolutely stunning. The beach is pristine, and the water is perfect for swimming. Be mindful of the occasional jellyfish. Despite this, the beauty of the beach makes it worth a visit. I enjoyed spending lazy afternoons here, soaking up the sun and taking in the gorgeous views.
